PET Procedure Challenges

Head movement presents a continuing problem in Positron Emission Tomograph (PET) neurological studies. Head movement during a brain PET study could cause blurring of the image, which might result in reduced image quality. Head restraint minimizes movement, but is unreliable and uncomfortable, resulting in the need to develop alternative strategies.

Product Integration

PET Procedure Integrating the Polaris Spectra or the Polaris Vicra® into PET acquisition solutions would allow for the monitoring of head motion during PET procedures in order to correct data during image reconstruction.

How would integrating the Polaris Spectra or the Polaris Vicra actually improve this procedure? Attaching NDI markers to an object that can be worn on the patient's head would allow the exact position and orientation of the patient's head to be known at all times during PET data acquisition. With the position and orientation of the patient's head known, the PET information can be accurately corrected using the data collected by the Polaris Spectra system once the procedure is completed.

Benefits of Product Integration
